Sacred Stitches: Underground Railroad Quilt Activity Book

By: Edith Younger Edmunds & Amy Edmunds

Sacred Stitches continues the journey begun in Secret Stitches, inviting readers to go deeper into the history, symbols, and geometry woven into Underground Railroad quilt patterns.

Guided by 100-year-old quilt artist Edith Younger Edmunds and co-author Amy Edmunds, this companion volume expands the exploration through new quilt designs, historical profiles, geography, and hands-on activities that connect storytelling, math, and cultural history.

Designed for children, families, educators, and lifelong learners, Sacred Stitches blends African American history with creative problem-solving—encouraging readers to draw, decode, and reflect as they uncover how patterns, borders, and symbols shaped paths to freedom.

Together, Secret Stitches and Sacred Stitches form a meaningful two-book experience that threads history, creativity, and learning—one stitch at a time.
